District 709 recognizes school board members

Morton Community Unit School District would like to thank its school board members for their commitment to leadership and learning on November 15, 2019. The date is officially designated each year as School Board Members Day in Illinois to honor these public servants for their contributions to our public schools.

“The decisions our school board members make impact so many aspects of our daily lives that we often overlook the service they provide which allows our community to grow and thrive,” said Jeff Hill, District 709 Superintendent. “They are truly leaders helping to shape our community and future generations.”

As community trustees for the schools, school board members oversee in District 709 an annual budget of $36.5 million; 3,113 students in grades Pre-K to 12th; more than 496 employees; and seven school buildings.

“Board members give up their personal time and their family time because they understand the importance of local governance in our educational system. They take the lead on tough choices that effect not only our school and students, but the entire community,” Hill said. “On November 15th, we recognize their commitment to the district, the students, and the people of the Morton-Groveland community and show how much we appreciate their service.”

To honor school board members in MCUSD, District 709 plans to recognize the board members at the November 5 school board meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Morton Education and Administration Center.
