The Morton Village Board has given Unum Fine Wine and Whiskey Lounge the go ahead for a planned outdoor seating area.

A resolution authorizing the sale of surplus real estate on W. Jefferson Street and a change to the Village liquor licenses were both approved at the August 19 board meeting.

Both changes were made to allow Unum to serve food and alcohol at a planned outdoor area in the grassy area next to Jefferson Place.

In other news, the Board:

* Approved a resolution authorizing a mural to be painted at 111 W. Washington Street.

The mural will be painted on the property of So Chic and will be available for pedestrians in the area to take a photo in front of.

* Approved the purchase of two SUVs for the Morton Police Department.

* Approved an amendment to the ordinance regarding cluster mailboxes.

These types of mailboxes will be able to be used in approved subdivisions to let multiple mailboxes be in one location.

* Approved amendments to the Grant Application Program for building improvements.

As part of the changes, it's now noted that applicants cannot start work on the portion of the project funds are requested for until the grant has been approved and funds awarded.

The changes also note that work on a larger project containing the section of work grant money is being used for can start before the grant is awarded, but the specific section of work cannot start until after a business receives the grant.

Three building improvement grants were also approved:

Noah and Christy Siemon received $2,681.32 for the addition of concrete walks and ramp, two exterior doors and railing at 108 S. Maple.

Morton Township received $2,750 for landscaping at 300 W. Jefferson, and Rachel Berchtold also received $3,925 for landscaping at 205 W. Jefferson.
