Lester John Roth, 98, of Washington, IL, passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the OSF Richard L Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
He was born on May 30, 1924, in Tremont, IL, to William O. and Emma (Pflederer) Roth. He married Sara Purdy on January 18, 1948, in Pekin, IL.
Surviving is his wife, Sara, of Washington; three daughters, Sandra Cahill of Peoria, IL, Janet (Eldon) Wehnes of Washington, IL, and Nancy (Edward) Kirkpatrick of Saybrook, IL; two grandchildren, Matthew (Kayla) Wehnes and Stacy (Chris) Schwarz; one step-grandson, Wade (Velvet) Kirkpatrick; four great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold Roth of Roanoke, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Dr. Bernard Cahill; one step-grandson, Lance Kirkpatrick; four brothers; and two sisters.
Lester was a US Marine Veteran, serving his country during WWII in Saipan and Iwo Jima. Lester was a Bronze Star Recipient. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company, retiring in 1986. He also farmed in Washington. Lester was a member of St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday March 3, 2023, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Dick Hanson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m., also on Friday at the church. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday March 3, 2023, at Glendale Cemetery in Pekin, with military honors rendered.
