I have written this letter to share with readers a pleasurable pastime I enjoy that might be of interest to them. It's easy, it takes up little of my time and it costs me nothing.

My pastime is complimenting employees to their managers, or complimenting managers to their companies. A pat on the back and an encouraging word from a manager to an employee, or from a company to a manager, can mean a lot.

Almost without exception, when I compliment an employee, their manager says, "Thanks! I get lots of complaints, but very few compliments." To me, that's sad. There are lots of people who do a great job, who cheerfully go out of their way to help me, and I like them to get recognized for their performance.

Thank you kindly,
