Washington beats Morton to end regular season play

Washington hosted Morton on Friday, October 21, 2022, at Babcook Field for each team’s final regular season game.  Washington (5-3) was already playoff eligible. A win for Washington would guarantee post-season play.  A win for Morton (4-4) would make them playoff eligible.  Washington received the ball to begin the game.  Each team struggled to generate much offense throughout the first half as the score was 0-0 at halftime.  Late in the third quarter Morton recovered a fumble. The Potters were not able to take advantage of the turnover as Washington recovered a fumble just a few plays later. Washington consistently had better field position in the third and fourth quarters while Morton’s defense kept them in check to keep the score tied at 0.  With less than four minutes remaining, Washington started with decent mid-field position for their drive. Washington was able to secure key first downs, and with 1:33 left in the game the Panthers’ Kainon McQueary took a pitch from QB Jake Stewart and ran in for a touchdown.  Washington won with a final score 7-0.  The Panthers move forward in the first round of the IHSA Class 6A playoffs at Midlothian (Bremen) on Friday, October 28, 2022.
