WCHS Homecoming game

The Washington Panthers hosted the Morton Potters for varsity football at Babcook Field on Friday, Sept 24, for a Mid-Illini Conference matchup, with Washington 1-1 and Morton 2-0 in conference play coming into the game.  This was also Washington’s homecoming weekend featuring the Homecoming Court along with the recent individual and team inductees into the school’s sports hall of fame.  Late in the first quarter the Panthers took a 7-0 lead with a pass from Noah Berlett to Isaac Mapson.  Early in the second quarter Morton’s Seth Glatz had a 95 yard touchdown run.  The extra point was missed.  With under a minute before halftime, Thomas Borges ran in a Panther touchdown to extend the lead to 14-6.  Morton tied the game in the third quarter with a Seth Glatz 47-yard run and a two-point conversion.  The Panthers then answered five minutes later on a Thomas Borges touchdown run. Midway through the fourth quarter Panther defensive lineman Noah Hoogerwerf intercepted a short pass near midfield and returned it over 40 yards for a touchdown with 5:15 left in the game.  Less than a minute later, Washington’s Evan Grazier picked off another Morton pass.  Washington’s homecoming game was capped by Drew Lewis (above) taking a pass from Noah Berlett and eluding several defenders for the final touchdown of the night as Washington beat Morton with a final score of 35-14.
